The Silva Daskalakis Winery is located in the Heraklion Prefecture, specifically in the village of Siva. The wider area belongs to one of the zones of Protected Designation of Origin – PDO Dafnes, concerning the variety Liatiko. The name SILVA comes from the place name Siva (si-wa), which refers to the God Siva (Dionysus) and the name is preserved in the oldest “living” religion of the planet, the Hindu religion. It is a small village, 17km outside Heraklion and has a particular historical wealth, as it was an object of worship in the wider region.
The area around the settlement of Siva Malevizi has a mild topography, fertile soil, ancient remains (carvings on the hill of Ai Nikola, wine presses at Kokkina presses and Volakou and a linear B sign with a reference to the site of Paliani. It has spring water, which makes it suitable for habitation since ancient times.
Through love and dedication, Irini Daskalaki Xenogiannaki starts dynamically the production of wine, applying new technologies and following the path that her ancestors carved in these vineyards.
In 1998, the first winery of the Daskalakis family is established in the village of Siva in the prefecture of Heraklion, Crete. According to mythology, the name refers to the god Siva, better known as Dionysus, who was worshipped in the region.
In the same year, the revival of 90 privately owned acres, which are cultivated with integrated organic farming at an altitude of up to 500 meters, began.
In 2003 the winery acquired the appropriate equipment with machinery in the production and bottling area.
In 2004 the first official bottling of ‘Liatiko’ dry PDO and ‘Liatiko’ natural, sweet wine PDO took place.
In 2006 came the first ‘golden’ recognition, winning the award ‘GREAT GOLD’ in an international wine competition and at the same time, we were the first winery in Crete to achieve such an award.
